The distribution of the regional wealth is representative of a
modern economy, yet an important share of this wealth still comes
from agriculture: 25% of the cultivated land are irrigated crops,
and the main productions are obtained from the cereals, fruits
and olive grove.
Within the agricultural industries, an important effort is being
made to promote the quality of the traditional foods of Aragon.
There exist Certificates of Origin to guarantee the quality of
the Wines of Cariñena, Calatayud, Field of Borja and Somontano;
of the Ham of Teruel; of the olive oil of the low Aragon; of the
lamb of Aragon, and of the Peach of Calanda.
The
government of Aragón also distinguishes with his mark of quality
other products elaborated with the maximum care by awarding his
mark "C de Calidad" (Q of quality): sausages, confectionery, etc.
Industries in the sectors of automobile, machinery, electronics
and paper production cluster in the surroundings of Zaragoza.
The Opel factory in Figueruelas (a town 15 kilometers from Zaragoza)
produces every day more than 4.000 cars of the models "Corsa"
and "Tigra", and it congregates a modern network of automobile
supplying industries around it.
Other important industries that have chosen Zaragoza as headquarters
for their Spanish facilities are Adidas, Schindler, Valeo, Siemens,
Saica, Pikolín, Sabeco, Memory Set, etc.
Aragón
leads the way for projects with great technological innovation,
such as the electric power production by means of wind parks that
are installed in our territory and whose wind mills are exported
all around the world.
